Diplomacy Quilts for Afghanistan Children Project

Your donated quilts are being handed to the Afghanistan children by the troops from Northern Illinois – building diplomacy one quilt at a time and keeping children warm. Afghanistan winters are very cold and the people are very poor, often sleeping on the ground.

Donation Guidelines

Fabric – washable cottons including flannels

Cultural Restrictions:

  • Prints should not include any images of creatures (human, animal, insects, fish, birds, etc)
  • No American Patriotic themes
  • No holiday or religious themes

Good Choices:

  • Flowers and geometric shapes
  •  Bright colors
  • Green is a favorite color in Afghanistan
  • Any of your quilting scraps that fit these categories

Suggestions for Quilt Patterns:
9 – Patch, Strip Quilts, Simple Block Quilts, Charity Quilt Pattern (see www.quiltinjoy.com or ask at the shop); or your own creation.

Size: Maximum 40 X 60; minimum 40 X 30.
Binding: 3 inches is suggested to assure a sturdy quilt.
Batting: cotton, wool or polyester (donations of new clean batting would be appreciated)
Quilts or Quilt Tops can be dropped off at Quilt in Joy, 10709 Dundee Rd., Huntley, IL 60142
Cost to Mail: $4.00 per quilt estimate. Donations are accepted and encouraged.
