Creative Classes

Summer Class Special, register and pay with a buddy and you both get a 10% discount.

Meet the Teachers, see the samples, and register on Saturday June 7th from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.

1. YOU CAN QUILT
This class is for the person with little or no quilting experience. You will learn quilting basics from rotary cutting to simple machine quilting. The lessons will provide hands-on experience as you create a lovely 40” Rail Fence square quilt to use as a wall hanging, table topper or baby quilt. Use our cutting tools and save on the initial supply cost.

2. YOU CAN QUILT II
This class is all about triangles, the next step in quilting. With your new knowledge you will make Friendship Star and Flying Geese blocks and turn them into a lovely 36” square quilt. When you complete this class, you will have a good quilting foundation that will give you confidence to try other quilting projects.

3. MACHINE QUILTING – Intermediate NEW
Paige Prescott has joined our QIJ Instructor Staff. She does much of our long arm quilting and is ready to teach Machine Quilting – beyond the basics. You’ll need to do your homework.

4. FOUR PATCH STACKED POSIES- NEW
Take a large hand-sized repeat pattern and use it to create a gorgeous kaleidoscope type quilt. Use one print for both the blocks and border. Wait until you see the variations!

5. CHRISTMAS WREATH - NEW
A start to Paper Piecing techniques. Two different one session classes to create this holiday door hanging. The price includes the kit and pattern.

6. RADIANT SUN - Intermediate:
This intermediate class adds a new creative technique in sewing curves and slicing fabric. There are many design possibilities, play with the color wall to create colorful swirls. A wow factor is included in the Radiant Sun pattern.

7. TOTE/ BAG CLASS
You pick one of our patterns and the fabric, then
spend the day completing your bag. We are here to help you out. The class is offered on a Saturday. One hour lunch break, or bring a lunch. Just in time for a great gift. Class filled twice last quarter, register early.

8. HAPPY HOUR – Quilt in a Day NEW
Happy Hour patterns are designed for beautiful fabrics; not extensive piecing. We hope to do our sample in black and whites. The class even ends with a Happy Hour celebration. One hour lunch break or bring a lunch.

9. SNOWMAN TABLE RUNNER NEW
This cute guy with a big nose will get your attention. You’ll learn two machine appliqué techniques as you complete him. This is an all day class with a lunch break. Price includes the complete kit with batting and pattern. Snowballs included, weather permitting.

10. DRUNKARD’S PATH – NEW
Each quarter we’re offering a classic quilt. During the summer we did the Log Cabin. This fall we’re offering the two color Drunkard’s Path. This pattern uses some quick techniques to make easy curves without the piecing challenge.

All supplies and patterns for classes need to be purchased separately and are not included in the cost of the class, unless otherwise indicated.

Patterns included with our classes may not be shared due to Federal copyright laws.

10. WE Q 2! – (We Quilt, Too!)
Have a budding quilter in the house? This class is for the young creative mind. It is geared specifically for kids between the ages of 11 and 16. September 6th, P.J. Pants are on – for you or a holiday gift.

11.BLOCK OF THE MONTH
Both of our Block of the Month Programs are in progress, a new one starts in January 2009.

12. WORK IN PROGRESS NIGHT
We’ve expanded to two Fridays a month. We order in and work to finish projects from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. It’s a fun way to quilt and enjoy other quilters. An Instructor is available. See the schedule for dates.

13. SEW – YOU WANT TO BE A QUILTER?? NEW
Have you admired quilts and wondered what it takes to get involved. Join us for this information mini-workshop and get the scoop. You’ll try the tools and hear about quality in fabrics. Discover whether a bargain thread is really that. Ever heard of a quilt sandwich? We’ll answer any questions you may have. No Charge.

14. GIFT IDEAS FOR CHRISTMAS NEW
This year make the gift that says you really care and take it easy of the wallet. Bring a paper and pen for note taking. There will be discounts on many of the items all three days of the workshop. We’re starting early September so you can get creating. No Charge.

15. GRANDMA/MOM AND ME
This class is for the pair of you and is geared to 5 – 8 year olds. Adults do the cutting, children do the selection and run the machine. Child size machines in our shop make it much easier for little hands. Create a nine patch Christmas quilt.

16. QUILT DOCTOR IS ON MONDAYS! NEW
Do your quilts have symptoms? Seams don’t meet? Strips aren’t straight? Borders are wavy? We have the remedy.

$10.00 each or buy a pass to all three for $25.00.

17. QUILT APPRAISALS NEW
Sandy Schweitzer is an AQS Certified Quilt Appraiser. She appraises both old and new quilts and also antique quilt tops. The quilt owner receives a written document (recognized by both the legal community and the IRS). Call to schedule your appointment for this all day Saturday event. Payment collected at appraisal.

Minimum class registration is 3, we’ll let you know when we’re ready to roll and take payment at that time.


Quilting Classes:

Summer is a great time to sharpen your quilting skills or learn a new one. The following classes still have some openings. Why not join us?

Radiant Sun – Tuesday evenings from 6 – 9 p.m. July 22, 29, and August 5

Stop by the shop and see the gorgeous sample. This class uses curved templates to make the piecing easier. We need one more student so sign up today.

You Can Quilt II – Thursday evenings from 6:30 – 9 p.m. July 24, 31, and August 7.

Take the next step in quilting by learning how to cut and sew half square triangles and quarter square triangles. With your new knowledge you will make Friendship Star and Flying Geese blocks and turn them into a lovely quilt approximately 36” square. When you complete this class, you will have a good quilting foundation that will give you confidence to try other quilting projects.

We need at least one more student to hold this class.

Work In Progress – The first Friday of each month from 4 – 9 p.m. August 2

Come any time from 4 – 9 p.m. and work on your unfinished projects. There is always someone here who can help you with any problems you might encounter. We’ll enjoy a light supper and have way too much fun! Come and meet some new quilting friends. We’d love to have you join us.

Hand Piecing Sampler– Wednesday, August 13 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (We’ll have a lunch break.)

The class fee is $40 and includes all of the supplies. Just think no sewing machine to lug around! Hand piecing is ideal for summer because projects can be placed in a bag and taken anywhere.

Log Cabin Quilt – Tuesday evenings from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. August 19, 26, and September 2.

The Log Cabin is a favorite among quilters. Stop by the classroom to see the beautiful sample. Dinah added a border that really gives this quilt the WOW factor! There are only 3 openings left so sign up today if you are interested.

Tote/Bag/Purse Class – Saturday, August 23rd 10a.m.- 4:00 p.m. (lunch break) -  Stop by and select your favorite purse pattern and fabric .   Our instructor will be on hand to guide you in putting your bag together.     It’s fun to see the variety of bags at the end of the day!
